Diabetes is directly related to the health of our eyes, and sometimes can produce an alteration in the blood vessels causing the eyes, therefore, the appearance of what is known as diabetic retinopathy.
Its appearance is usually caused by stages in which diabetes is more severe or poorly controlled glucose. However, other factors such as snuff, obesity or hypertension may also be related to its development. It also considers that any person who has had diabetes for at least thirty years will have some ocular symptoms of this disorder, so it is vitally important to attend regular eye examinations, especially considering that diabetic retinopathy can cause blindness.
In most cases this condition is usually asymptomatic. However, over time, and when the situation gets worse, end up having symptoms such as blurred vision, loss of vision some areas or trouble seeing at night.
The damage suffered by the retina can not be repaired, but with proper treatment can be controlled and slow. The techniques used include laser photocoagulation to destroy new blood vessels and seal those with loss and vitrectomy, to remove the blood that may have gotten into the vitreous.
