
What is acne vulgaris?
Acne vulgaris is a disorder of the sebaceous follicles, which are special pilosebaceous units (in relation to hair follicles and sebaceous glands) located on the face, chest and back. this is a very common skin disorder that affects almost all adolescents and adults at least once during life. According to Brown et al (1998), the peak incidence of acne at age 18, however, a substantial number of men and women ages 20-40 are also affected by this disorder.
Acne is a systemic disease is rarely associated with medical problems, however, the importance and morbidity of acne should not be underestimated, as their disguise may have important negative psychosocial consequences for affected individuals including low self-esteem, shame social, social isolation, depression and even unemployment.
Types of acne vulgaris
There are two main types of acne vulgaris, inflammatory and non inflammatory, which may manifest in different ways
1. Comedonal acne, which is a non-inflammatory acne
2. Inflammatory papules and pustules of acne
3. Nodular acne (inflammatory acne)
4. Inflammatory acne with hyperpigmentation (this happens more often in patients with darker skin complexions)
